Tamarack's Story
Tamarack Habilitation Technologies is world renowned in the orthotic and prosthetic (O&P) marketplace for developing the "Tamarack", a line of free motion and dorsiflexion assist ankle joints as well as ShearBan® low-friction interfaces, fabrication tools and a wide range of journal publications related to orthotic design.
Tamarack is a small "S" corporation of 16 employees, wholly owned by the Marty and Peggy Carlson family. We are focused on process rather than goals. We like to do interesting work in a cooperative way to solve real problems many people encounter as they expand their function, or go about their preferred work and play. We like to grow and progress, but in a way that nurtures our company of people, our extended community and surroundings. Our collective and individual reputations are precious - to be authentically built, maintained and highly valued.
We endeavor to be a green company and a good place to work. Tamarack contributes funds, materials and employee time to help educate and assist O&P schools in many locations across the nation and around the world.
The Tamarack management team considers physical challenges of injured / impaired people to be akin to, and part of, a continuous spectrum including the physical challenges of elite athletes. We really enjoy working out ways to enhance function for people across that entire performance spectrum with greater efficiency, comfort/safety and enjoyment.
ENGO® is born…
2004 — Tamarack launches ENGO® Blister Prevention Patches, our low-friction interface patches designed to adhere directly to footwear, insoles and athletic equipment – not on the skin.
Some of our first customers include the Minnesota Vikings Football Team, Minnesota State University – Mankato Athletic Teams and Midwest Mountaineering, Minneapolis, MN.
ENGO® patch debuted at the Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, MN and the National Athletic Trainers Association Annual Meeting.
2005 — Runner's World Magazine features ENGO® patches – highlighting it's unique application and long-lasting benefits, as compared to traditional blister treatment products.
2006 — ENGO® patches are released to three new sports medicine suppliers: Collins Sports Medicine, Henry Schein, Medco and Sports Health.
2007 — ENGO® patches are shipped to European researchers & physicians, to aid in their climb of Mt. Everest to conduct research experiments on hypoxia and other altitude-related illnesses. Recently the Xtreme Everest Expedition (www.xtremeverest.co.uk) came to an end, with research papers, interviews and video segments making their way through television & print media.
Tamarack sponsors world-class ultrarunner, training coach and author, Marshall Ulrich. In 2007, Marshall completed his 20th Death Valley Crossing (Badwater Ultramarathon 2007) and summited Mt. Kilimanjaro, among numerous other accomplishments across the globe.
New website is launched to provide customers a secure, user friendly environment for learning about ENGO® patches, blisters, and how to purchase.
ENGO patches are launched in over 50 Eastern Mountain Sports (www.EMS.com) stores along the East Coast.
Looking forward
Tamarack will continue developing upon our understanding of ankle-foot biomechanics and skin trauma to fuel our product design efforts.
